Codelists are either be open or closed. Closed codelists are intended to be comprehensive; for example, the currency codelist covers all currencies in the world. Open codelists are intended to be representative, but not comprehensive.

World Database of Protected Areas ID |
The World Database of Protected Areas (WDPA) is the most comprehensive global database of marine and terrestrial protected areas, updated on a monthly basis. It is a joint project between the UN Environment Programme and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The WDPA database uses unique identification numbers to track protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) within the databases over time. UNEP-WCMC assigns a WDPA ID to each new protected area/OECM at its first listing. The WDPA ID is a persistent, globally unique identifier. |
